Pulpit Minister - Mike Root
Born in the Nation’s Capitol, Mike left there at thirteen to
attend school in Georgia at Georgia Christian School, where he graduated in
1970. He received a BA in Bible from
Harding University and spent a year working there as an Admissions
Counselor. His career as a pulpit
minister includes: a two year ministry
in Benton, Arkansas, where he was also the Youth Minister; a thirteen year
ministry with the Fairfax Church of Christ in Fairfax, Virginia, just outside
of Washington, D.C., where he also served as a Police Chaplain with the Fairfax
County Police Department; and an eight year ministry with the Altamesa Church
of Christ in Fort Worth, Texas. This was
followed by a seven year ministry as the pulpit minister with the Antioch Church of
Christ in Nashville, Tennessee, and since January 1, of 2005, he has been the
pulpit minister here at Florissant.
Mike has a Master of Arts degree in History from George
Mason University and a Master of Theology degree from Trinity Theological
Seminary. He has a novel entitled Rev,
which is based on his experiences as a Police Chaplain. He has five other books that have been
published throughout the years, which include Spilt Grape Juice, Life’s
Cobwebs, Unbroken Bread, Empty Baskets, and I Knew That. He has had articles in many magazines and
papers. He has taught seminars,
workshops, and had speaking appointments in 28 states and many foreign
countries. He has also been on the
lectureship program of several Christian universities.
He is a Self-Defense Instructor and an avid Bowhunter. His wife of thirty-eight years is the former
Donna Sue Curtis, and she is the Children’s Minister at Florissant. They have
three adult and married children, who – so far – have blessed Mike and Donna
with seven wonderful grandchildren.
Youth Minister - Jerry Williamson
Jerry has been married to his best friend,
Cathy, since 1989. He is the proud
father of three beautiful children. After
High School, Jerry spent the next six years working as a Radar &
Navigational Equipment Technician in the USAF.
While stationed at Hill AFB in Utah, Jerry earned his degree in
Electronic Technologies from Weber State University in Ogden University. Upon leaving the Air Force, Jerry worked for
McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) as an electronics technician until 1993. While in the Air Force, Jerry continued his
love for music by performing with the AF Drum & Bugle Corps. After being discharged from the Air Force, Jerry
started an acappella singing group in 1988 that traveled and sang together until
1994. In 1995, Jerry answered God’s call
to work in full time ministry with the students at the Florissant Church of
Christ. Jerry has also attended St.
Louis Christian College as a student of Youth Ministry, Worship Ministry and
Biblical Studies. In 1998, his
responsibilities at Florissant were soon extended to Student & Worship
Ministries. Jerry has spent his whole
ministry career at the Florissant Church of Christ.
